God Bless the Broken Road

Do you ever find yourself in one of those thoughtful moments, thinking about all the people in your overlapping circles of life? And you feel your heart and soul swell like a budding flower at sunrise as it tries to soak up every bit of warmth that has been given you because of these associations.

The words come from your heart of hearts; a place so deep only those tuned to listen will hear you:

“God bless the broken road that led me straight to you”

Definitely was never one straight road. I had to do frightening things and make hard choices and go blind many times. Paths veered and merged and broke off. But so it was for everyone. A while ago I was walking on a sandy path where the imprints of shoes were left all over. Crazy, chaotic. Some even off the path. All different patterns. Going different directions. And here I was on that path, too.

Everyone who has entered my sacred circles started out as a stranger. Some stepped in and back out; leaving tidbits for me to glean. Others have stayed and I am fortunate to call them friends. I don’t believe anyone leaves nothing. We are who we are because of everyone we’ve brushed shoulders with.

All of us strangers in need of an interaction like a pleasant word, a soft touch or simply a smile. Hopefully we leave something needed with those whose circles we step in; leaving them better for having crossed paths with us.

I can only pray I, myself, have and will continue to do so.

Day 11 of Light the World: “I was a stranger and ye took me in.” {Matthew 25:35}
